Local Natives make magic

There’s nothing quite like catching an artist on the rise. Local Natives attracted immediate acclaim with its first LP Gorilla Manor a couple years ago and has been steadily building a loyal, passionate audience since. We were fortunate to put that audience into a room with the L.A. quintet for its debut ACL taping, and the result was magic.

The atmospheric synth intro of “Breakers” signaled the beginning of a journey through the group’s harmony-rich vision of Afropop-kissed indie rock. Busy percussion and polyrhythmic grooves buoyed soaring melodies in “Ceilings,” “Colombia” and “You & I” to unique effect. “Airplanes,” “Black Balloons” and the crowd favorite “Wide Eyes” tightened the rhythms and emphasized catchy, jangly guitar hooks as much as airy vocals. “Shape Shifter,” “Bowery” and the encore-closing “Sun Hands” stretched the band out dynamically showcasing songs that started gently and ended with vibrant excitement. The band paid tribute to an oft-cited influence with a rattling cover of Talking Heads’ “Warning Sign.”

The most moving moment came during the final song of the main set, when the Natives performed a special acoustic arrangement of “Who Knows Who Cares” worked up for this performance that really exploited the band’s folk underpinnings and choir-like vocal harmonies. We’re always flattered when an artist treats a taping as a special occasion (made doubly so when the band asked their touring bass player to join them permanently), and we can’t wait for this spring to show you why this performance counts as one. Stay tuned.

Livestream Wyatt Flores’ ACL TV Taping 9/19 @ 8 PM CT

Red Dirt singer and songwriter Wyatt Flores makes his Austin City Limits (ACL) debut on Friday, September 19, and the legendary music series is proud to announce this performance will be livestreamed on the ACLTV YouTube Channel. ACL offers fans worldwide the unique opportunity to watch the breakout artist’s taping live in its entirety from the famed Austin City Limits stage in Austin, Texas, on September 19 at 8pm CT/9pm ET free via the ACLTV YouTube Channel. ACL is thrilled to showcase the ascendant singer-songwriter performing highlights from his breakout album, Welcome to the Plains. An electric live performer, Flores comes to the ACL stage from a run of tour dates supporting Post Malone in addition to his own headlining tour. The livestream will begin promptly at 8pm CT and will only be available live. The broadcast episode will air on PBS and stream on pbs.org/austincitylimits as part of the television series’ upcoming Season 51, which premieres October 4, 2025, with a season opener featuring ten-time Grammy-winning artist and producer FINNEAS making his solo headlining debut.

Wyatt Flores’ debut album, Welcome to the Plains, takes listeners to the corner of the world that this 24-year-old country songwriter knows best—Oklahoma. A 14-song trek through tales of fiery love, small-town truths and lighthearted mortality, the album captures the grounded, sincere storytelling forged by Flores partly during his formative years in his hometown of Stillwater. “Welcome To The Plains is all about my fight to come home,” says the Mexican American artist. The project details Flores’ journey as he balances the struggle of leaving a small town versus the highs and lows of life on the road.

Produced by Beau Bedford (Orville Peck, Shane Smith & The Saints), the album opens with the scene-setting title track, co-written by Old Crow Medicine Show bandleader Ketch Secor. Flores sketches a new take on home in the foot-stomping country-folk title tune. The album has received widespread critical acclaim and earned Flores an Emerging Act of the Year nomination at the 2024 Americana Honors & Awards.

At age 12, Flores’ sister passed him a copy of Turnpike Troubadours’ red dirt masterpiece, Diamonds & Gasoline, unlocking a love for roots music that later led to artists such as Jason Isbell, 49 Winchester and Sturgill Simpson. Flores established himself as one of country music’s most vital voices with a trio of EPs, his 2022 debut The Hutson Sessions, featuring the fan-favorite single “Please Don’t Go”; 2023’s Life Lessons and 2024’s Half Life, building a steadfast following of listeners who often heard echoes of their own lives in his honest songs. Gigs in tiny Oklahoma bars turned into packed club shows and, eventually, a contract with Island Records.

Role Model—aka Tucker Pillsbury—first made waves with his 2022 debut album Rx, a confessional, genre-blurring pop record. His sophomore release Kansas Anymore expands his sound with 13 folk-tinged, lyrically driven tracks, including the viral hit “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.” Praised by GQ for its “big-swing pop music” and Paper for its “folk-tinged, heart-heavy” sound, the album cemented his rise as one of music’s most exciting voices. Following his sold-out No Place Like Tour, which sold over 90,000 tickets worldwide, the Maine native released a deluxe edition, Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye), featuring four new songs that expand the emotional and sonic scope of the original album. Expanding his creative reach, he is also set to make his acting debut opposite Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo in Lena Dunham’s upcoming Netflix film Good Sex.

7x Grammy-Winner Jon Batiste’s Austin City Limits Taping to Stream Live Worldwide 10/3 @ 8 PM CT

Austin City Limits—September 29, 2025—Acclaimed television music series Austin City Limits (ACL) is thrilled to present a worldwide livestream event with seven-time GRAMMY® Award- and Academy Award-winning musician Jon Batiste on October 3rd. As a preview to ACL’s Season 51, which premieres the following day, fans everywhere can experience this highly anticipated taping live in its entirety from the iconic Austin City Limits stage in Austin, Texas. The performance streams free and live on the ACLTV YouTube Channel and YouTube.com/jonbatistemusic, beginning promptly at 9pm ET/8pm CT on Friday, October 3rd.

An electrifying live performer, Batiste brings his newly launched BIG MONEY Tour to ACL for the first-ever livestream of his latest album and tour. The full-hour broadcast episode of this performance will air on PBS and stream on pbs.org/austincitylimits on November 22, 2025, as a highlight of the television series’ upcoming Season 51, which kicks off on October 4 with a season premiere episode featuring Grammy-winning artist and producer FINNEAS making his solo headlining debut.

Jon Batiste first appeared on ACL in 2021 during Season 47, delivering an ecstatic, fan-favorite set. The American original now returns as a seven-time Grammy winner, performing highlights from his acclaimed ninth studio album, BIG MONEY (Verve/Interscope). A genre-defying collection featuring collaborations with No I.D., Randy Newman, Andra Day and more, the rootsy album deepens the New Orleans native’s exploration of the American musical canon. Expansive yet deeply personal, BIG MONEY weaves together soul, hip-hop, jazz, blues and pop, continuing Batiste’s mission of blending innovation with emotional resonance.

“We have such a profoundly rich cultural inheritance in America that many of us don’t know of, don’t fully embrace, don’t fully understand,” the artist recently told Rolling Stone. “Artists have to keep making statements that point back to that and counter things that are trying to dilute that or erase it.”

Batiste comes to the ACL stage directly from his current BIG MONEY Tour, with more than 30 dates across the U.S. this fall. On Wednesday, October 1, Batiste will bring his BIG MONEY Tour to Nashville’s historic Grand Ole Opry.  Midway through its 30-date run, the tour features Golden Globe® Award-winning singer, songwriter, actress, and activist Andra Day on select dates, with singer-songwriter and actress Diana Silvers supporting throughout.  View full dates and ticket information at jonbatiste.com. Listen to BIG MONEY HERE. Exclusive signed CDs and hot pink vinyl are available at jonbatistestore.com

BIG MONEY caps a landmark year for Batiste, which included his Super Bowl performance, two GRAMMY® wins for his acclaimed Netflix documentary American Symphony, and the chart-topping success of Beethoven Blues, which spent nine weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Albums chart.

Live Stream Waxahatchee’s ACL Taping on 5/19 @ 8pm CT

Austin City Limits to Live Stream Waxahatchee’s ACL Debut

Breakout artist Waxahatchee makes her Austin City Limits debut on Monday, May 19 and the legendary music series is thrilled to announce this highly-anticipated performance will be livestreamed on the ACLTV YouTube Channel. ACL offers fans worldwide the unique opportunity to watch Waxahatchee’s taping live from the famed ACL stage in its entirety on May 19 at 8pm CT/9pm ET free via the ACLTV YouTube Channel.  The livestream will begin promptly at 8pm CT and will only be available live. The broadcast episode will air this fall on PBS and stream on pbs.org/austincitylimits as part of the television series’s upcoming Season 51.

ACL is proud to welcome Katie Crutchfield, the indie musician who performs as Waxahatchee (the name of a creek she grew up near in Alabama). She’s been releasing albums as Waxahatchee since 2012 and recently scored a career high with Tigers Blood, which earned a 2025 Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. Recorded at Sonic Ranch in the Texas bordertown of Tornillo with producer Brad Cook, the Kansas City-based Crutchfield wrote most of the songs on the album during a self-described “hot hand spell” while on tour in 2022. Tigers Blood features her most potent songwriting to date and includes the breakout single “Right Back To It,” a lo-fi gem that features southern indie-rock ace MJ Lenderman on harmony vocals and guitar, nominated for Song of the Year at the 2024 Americana Music Awards. Album highlights include the spellbinding opener “3 Sisters”; “365,” a powerful meditation on co-dependency and addiction; and “Bored,” a blazing number on diverging friendships in your 30s. Tigers Blood is Waxahatchee’s first release in four years since 2020’s acclaimed Saint Cloud, a pandemic era standout and turning point that found Crutchfield steering away from indie rock and leaning into Americana and roots music, a sound with deep ties to her southern upbringing. The road-tested artist is touring throughout 2025, including a recent Luck Ranch show with one of her primary influences, Lucinda Williams. Waxahatchee will join Willie Nelson this fall on his Outlaw Music Festival.

Live stream: Sudan Archives

Austin City Limits is excited to announce that we will be live streaming our upcoming Season 49 taping with acclaimed singer-songwriter, violinist, and producer Sudan Archives for her ACL debut on August 10 at 8pm CT. We welcome this innovative artist to the ACL stage on the heels of her buzzed-about performances at Glastonbury and Coachella. ACL offers fans worldwide the unique opportunity to watch this taping live in its entirety free here on our ACLTV YouTube Channel.

Sudan Archives breakthrough second album Natural Brown Prom Queen is an epic record that is also her most personal, taking in race, womanhood, and the fiercely loyal, loving relationships at the heart of Sudan’s life with her family, friends, and partner. Born Brittney Denise Parks, Sudan burst onto the scene in 2017 with “Come Meh Way,” back when she was a violinist and loop maker producing beats in her Ohio bedroom. While her 2019 debut album Athena drew inspiration from divine Black feminine power, on Natural Brown Prom Queen Sudan is in character as Britt, the girl next door from Cincinnati who drives around the city with the top down and shows up to high school prom in a pink furry bikini with her thong hanging out her denim skirt. From first listen, it’s immediately apparent that Natural Brown Prom Queen is the one-woman instrumentalist’s most ambitious work to date, spanning 18 tracks – from the disco-influenced R&B of “Home Maker” to Afrocentric anthem “Selfish Soul,” hip-hop banger “OMG Britt,” the wild ride of “NBPQ (Topless)” and the ballad “Homesick (Gorgeous & Arrogant).” The acclaimed release was named an album of the year by Pitchfork, The New York Times, The Guardian, The FADER, The Needle Drop, NPR, Vulture, Time Out, CNN, Slate, Paste, SPIN, Pop Matters, and many more; “Home Maker” was chosen by Barack Obama for his Favorite Songs of 2022, and Sudan Archives was handpicked by superstar Bad Bunny for Rolling Stone’s Future of Music issue. Fittingly for an album named for a homecoming event, Natural Brown Prom Queen is all about home: both Sudan’s adopted hometown of L.A. and Cincinnati, where she was raised. It’s intimate in all senses of the word, with Sudan unafraid to be vulnerable, tender and open about her insecurities. “Natural Brown Prom Queen is an album of many movements and ruminations, but almost all of them trace back to the multiple ways that a person can find and re-find home,” writes poet and Sudan’s fellow Ohio native Hanif Abdurraqib. “In flimsy, shifting geography, in the fights and triumphs that filter into interactions with beloveds and kinfolk, and, of course, the mighty work of home-making within oneself.” But the record is also about finding pleasure – after all, this is the artist who played violin upside-down on a pole in a music video. On Natural Brown Prom Queen, Sudan Archives invites you to join in and embrace shared joy.

Join us here on August 10 at 8 p.m. CT for Sudan Archives; the broadcast episode will air on PBS this fall as part of our upcoming Season 49. Tune in to your local PBS station on Saturday nights for fan-favorite encore episodes of Austin City Limits; watch live on PBS, or stream anytime at PBS.org.
