Behind the Scenes (Season 41)
It’s been three years since prolific singer/songwriter Ryan Adams released an album. To his fans’ delight, this past September “one of the few truly great roots-rock troubadours left” (Entertainment Weekly) released an all-new self-titled record hailed as “the most confident record he’s made since the early 2000s” (Rolling Stone). Adams takes the Austin City Limits stage for his second solo appearance to share songs from Ryan Adams as well as tunes from throughout his 25-year career. Tonight’s performance will feature material spanning this expansive catalog, spread over an acoustic performance and an electric set.
Ryan Adams is a multiple Grammy nominated singer/songwriter from Jacksonville, North Carolina, whose critcially acclaimed previous albums have included Heartbreaker (2000), Gold (2001), Love is Hell (2004), Cold Roses (2005), Easy Tiger (2007) and Ashes & Fire (2011). Adams is also the CEO of his own PAX-AM label, through which he has been releasing the exclusive PAX-AM Singles Series, as well as albums including the 15-LP vinyl edition of his 2012 Live After Deaf box set that sold out of its initial pressing in eight minutes.
With 2014’s self-titled release, Adams has produced his highest charting and arguably his best record to date – one that NPR described as “the sound of a genius who’s only recently relearned what it’s like to walk on steady footing,” Stereogum called ” a total knockout,” and that moved Esquire to rave “Adams’ ability to pair language with devastating weight and his mellow timbre is stronger than it’s ever been.”
