Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Since its start in the 1960s, Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been the premier showcase for the best in New Orleans style jazz, this is their Austin City Limits television debut.
The band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The founding artists and dozens of others passed on the lessons of their music to a younger generation who now follow in their footsteps under the auspices of current director Ben Jaffe, who is the son of founders Allan and Sandra.
2010’s Preservation featured recordings with more than 20 guest artists who performed with the band on classic New Orleans songs. In their Best Music of 2010 wrap up Paste wrote “Tom Waits, Yim Yames, Steve Earle, Buddy Miller and Ani DiFranco sound even better with some legendary New Orleans brass.”
