Jack White

After rising to the top of the garage rock revival with the White Stripes, Jack White has maintained his stature as one of the most successful musicians, both critically and commercially, of the modern era. Here he returns for his second appearance on Austin City Limits with an unforgettable night of rock ‘n’ roll.

Deemed the “coolest, weirdest, savviest rock star of our time” by The New York Times, there is no denying that Jack White embodies the spirit of his music perfectly with a relentless thirst to push farther. The Detroit native emerged onto the mainstream music scene in the early 2000s, where he helped revive a “back to basics” approach with his stripped-down garage rock sound as frontman of the White Stripes. The band received great critical praise and quickly became one of the most acclaimed rock bands of the decade. Amidst the band’s success, White has been the driving force behind his side projects, the Raconteurs (who appeared on ACL in 2006) and the Dead Weather. He has also produced and recorded albums for notable artists like Loretta Lynn at his Third Man Records complex in Nashville.

White’s debut album Blunderbuss, released earlier this year, debuted at No. 1 on the charts in the US, UK, Canada and Switzerland. Q Magazine calls the eclectic record “a concentrated shot of charisma, undiluted and intoxicating,” while Rolling Stone notes that it has “huge riffs, wild ideas, tunes for miles: Jack White has created a classic.” The Guardian asserts that “Blunderbuss is White at his most strange, contradictory and unfathomable, and therefore at his best.”
