English rockers Gomez have both expanded and evaded a variety of traditional genres over the span of their 15-year career. By blending Ben Ottewell’s gritty vocals with rock-driven harmonies and bluesy instrumentals, the band’s uniquely versatile sound has earned them both critical acclaim and a solid international fan base.

Whatever’s On Your Mind, released in June 2011, is a compilation of well-crafted, stripped-back tracks that Ball claims “has a voice of its own”. Rather than taking a typical approach to the writing process, the band spent several months spread across different continents modifying their ideas through technology. This long-distance style of writing proved successful, as Ball said, “I enjoyed the way that it went down, it was really interesting and cool, and definitely my favorite way to record so far.” Paste Magazine said Whatever’s On Your Mind “maintains Gomez’s eclectic genre influences, while achieving a new level of spirit and introspection.”
